      About 72% of Bloomberg L.P. is owned by New York City's mayor, Michael R. Bloomberg. This list below is from a variety of sources. The first item below this introduction is a list, which is the result of much more recent research than the other items below this introduction. BLP (Bloomberg L.P.) is not a government.

      We will now recount, as well as we imperfectly remember it, an incident which occurred early in Bloomberg's first term as mayor. He had a Bloomberg box put on his desk. He later had a photo made of his office, or of him in his office, something like that. This was done by the city government, at city expense. It was published. He had an ethics adviser whom he had selected. The adviser thought it wrong that the mayor used city resources to give free publicity to his business, a business he continued to own while mayor. As far as we know, he didn't pay the city for the value of the free publicity or even for the cost of making and publishing the photo. Anyway, we provide information about some of that business's officers on this page.

      According to "Political Memo: No Social Recluse, Mayor Fights Killjoy Image", by Jennifer Steinhauer, in the New York Region section of the New York Times, 10 February 2004, the Mark Hotel is one of the mayor's favorite bars for a nightcap. He sometimes goes to a diner in Queens or Staten Island for coffee if meetings keep him out late. He ate late at night in the Neptune Diner, near Queens's La Guardia Airport (3105 Astoria Blvd, Astoria, NY 11102). His girlfriend, who lives with him, is Diana L.       Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg owns more than two thirds of BLP (Bloomberg L.P.), a Delaware limited partnership. The mayor lives a short walk from Mortimer B. Zuckerman's 5th Avenue address, in a relatively safe neighborhood of New York city. Living in a safe neighborhood is the traditional way that mayors show their solidarity with people whose low income requires that they live in high-crime neighborhoods. :-)

    2. Before Michael Bloomberg was mayor, he openly was a liberal Democrat. For example, he contributed money to a Hillary Clinton campaign fund. Then, he wanted to be mayor but he couldn't get his party's endorsement. He nominally, temporarily changed to the Republican party. Conservatives, under Serphin Maltese's leadership, run the executive committee of the Queens Republican party's county committee. In May 2001, those conservatives, under Serphin Maltese's leadership, arranged Bloomberg's endorsement although Bloomberg was still a de facto liberal Democarat. At about the same time that Bloomberg was endorsed, he paid $25,000.00 to the Queens Republican party's county committee. This kind of purchased endorsement is rampant in New York.

      In New York city, each district attorney's funding comes from the city government. The mayor must approve the city's budget, including that part of the budget which provides money to district attorney offices. There is a big conflict of interest for any districtg attorney (for example, the New York county or Queens county district attorney) considering prosecution of a mayor. Furthermore, Serphin Maltese used to be a prosecutor in the Queens district attorney's office. This prior employment might create an additional conflict of interest, or at least the appearance of one, for the Queens district attorney. Before prosecution by a district attorney, there is usually a police investigation. There would be a big conflict of interest in an NYPD investigation of New York's mayor.

      Bloomberg left the Republican party, becoming unaffilated, on about 19 June 2007. He had become a Republican to be eligible to run in a Republican primary election for mayor of New York City. He left the party after he was reelected mayor. On the day he left the party, he was barred by city term limits from running for mayor for a third, consecutive term; and America's presidential primary campaigning had begun.

The 210,432 votes that Bloomberg got in Queens was almost 6 times his margin of victory (35,489 votes). A Republican candidate cannot carry New York city in November 2005 without carrying Queens county. Before the Republican primary election in 2001, the Queens Republican party's regular leadership (or at least that part of the regular leadership which consists of the executive committee of the party's county committee) endorsed Bloomberg. Before the Republican primary election in 2005, the Queens Republican party's regular leadership almost unanimously endorsed (according to former URL www.timesledger.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=13980827&BRD=2676&PAG=461&dept_id=542415&rfi=6) Thomas V. "Tom" Ognibene (a former city council member from Queens who is close to Queens Republican leader Serf Maltese), not Michael Bloomberg. In the November 2005 general election for mayor, the Queens Republican party's regular leadership's coolness toward Bloomberg will cost him votes in the most important county there is for a Republican candidate trying to carry New York city in a general election. That coolness will cost Bloomberg two ways: some Queens Republcians will vote for Ognibene as the Conservative party's candidate for mayor, and some Queens Republicans won't vote for mayor. By the way, Queens is crucial for all Republican candidates trying to carry New York city in a general election, not just for Bloomberg.


      Supposedly, Bloomberg paid about $72,000,000.00 or $74,000,000.00 dollars for his campaign, in which he got 744,757 votes. Therefore, he paid an average of about one hundred dollars per vote. Some people would have voted for him without him spending any money. Some people would have voted for him if only a tiny amount of money had been spent on persuasion. This website concludes that the cost per vote of many of Bloomberg's votes must have been much more than one hundred dollars per vote.

    4. How useful will Bloombreg's fortune be whe he tries to get re-elected in the November 2005 general election? Most New York city mayoral campaign money goes for advertising. Years ago, when Bloomberg was a recent convert to the Republican party who had never held elective office, his advertising helped him much. Now that voters have an opinion of him based on years of extensive publicity that he has been getting as mayor, a hugely expensive advertising campaign won't help him much. In New York city's mayoral campaigns to win general elections, advertising helps the obscure more than the famous.

      Foreign-born immigrants, Hispanics, and non-Hispanic blacks are increasing percentages of the city's adult population. Those people tend to vote for Democrats, rather than for Republicans, at a higher rate than do non-Hispanic whites, who are a decreasing percentage of the city's adult population. Furthermore, women are more likley than men to vote for Democrats rather than for Republican. This website is under the impression that the ratio of women to men is increasing in the city; if so, that would be another force making the city more Democratic. A more Democratic city means a more difficult re-election campaign for Republican Bloomberg.

      Mark Green got only 676,717 votes in the general election of November 2001 (when he ran against Michael Bloomberg), according to information in a pdf file provided by the New York city Board of Elections website. This number is interesting because it is so small. In the fall of 2001, Democrats who wanted to vote for mayor had four elections:

      1. The first primary election, 11 September 2001 (massacre day), cancelled after many people had voted or gone to the voting place intending to vote
      2. The second primary election, 25 September 2001, in which the front-runner failed to get forty percent of the vote
      3. The Democratic runoff election, 11 October 2001, a Thursday
      4. The general election, 7 November 2001.

      In the rescheduled Democratic mayoral primary (25 September 2001), 785,365 votes were cast, according to information in a pdf file provided by the New York city Board of Elections website. In the Democratic mayoral runoff primary (11 October 2001, a Thursday), a total of 804,852 votes were cast for Green and Ferrer combined, according to information provided by a webpage which seemed to rely on the New York Times. (Also, some votes were cast in that runoff primary election but not counted for the two canddiates; for example, maybe the votes were somehow lost, illegible, or defective.) Normally, the number of votes for a candidate for government office in a New York city general election is much bigger than the total number cast in his party's primary election for that office. Why did Democratic candidate Green get only 676,717 votes in the general election? That number is far smaller than the number of votes cast in either Democratic primary election for mayor (September 25th and October 11th), not far bigger . Green would have won the general election if the normal pattern had prevailed (namely, that a Democratic candidate in a general election gets far more votes than than the total number of votes that were cast in his party's primary election for that office). Maybe some Democratic voters in 2001 refused to go to the polls four times in fewer than 60 days (three Tuesdays and a Thursday). This website guesses that that anomaly is somehow the result of nine eleven. That anomaly will not recur in 2005 (prediction made 28 April 2005). In the mayoral general election in November 2005, the Democratic candidate will get far more votes than the total number of votes cast in a 2005 Democratic mayoral primary election. This will be a problem for Republican Bloomberg.
